IrfanView is a freeware image viewer for Microsoft Windows that can view, edit, and convert image files and play video/audio formats. It does not have extensive image creation and painting capabilities like Adobe Photoshop, Pixel image editor, Paint.NET or GIMP. Rather, IrfanView is designed to be a lightweight viewer/player which is noted for its speed, ease of use, and ability to handle a wide variety of graphic file formats. Change the image size (and the file size)

  1. Open the image in Irfanview.
  2. Click Image – Resize/Resample.
  3. Decide if Preserve aspect ratio should be checked.
  4. Set the new width and/or height and click OK.
  5. Click File – Save to save the resized image.

Change the image type, e.g. from jpg to gif

  1. Open the image in Irfanview.
  2. Click File – Save and choose the image type in the Save as type box.

Crop an image

  1. Draw a rectangle with the mouse of the part you want to keep.
  2. Press Ctrl+Y or choose Crop selection on the Edit menu.

Change the filesize and reduce the image quality of jpg images

  1. Save as
  2. Move the slider Save quality
  3. Click Save
