Challenge #1

Take some matches. How many different triangles can you make with them? In each triangle you have to use all the matches. The matches can neither be broken nor bent.

The best answers will be displayed here. Please note: to show how you found your results is as important as the results themselves. In 1836 the Norwegian mathematician Otto Aubert wrote this about his colleagues: "When they had reached a top, they threw the ladder away to make people believe that they had flown up. They were afraid people would not realise their brilliance when they saw how easy it had made them their discoveries." Don't let that happen to you!
